New Capacity Tag Update - The 7/20 Peak Didn't Last Long

Updated: Aug 6, 2020

I thought that the Annual System Peak set on 7/20/20 would be hard to beat. Turn out it took only a week and we now have a new high. On 7/272/20 between 5-6 p.m. we saw a peak demand of 24,907 MW and an hourly average of 24,729 MW before adjustments.

This exceeded the 7/20/20 max of 24,052 and hourly average of 23,870. Considering the circumstances, I'm surprised the peak registered as high as it did. Going back to 2014, only 2016 and 2018 have registered higher peaks during that period.

Overall, we still have a full month left and we will keep a close eye on prospective peak days and continue to notify our customers to help them reduce their capacity tags.
